In Chinese Medicine, there are Five Elements that represent how energy shifts from one phase to the next, much like the changing seasons. Each of these elements has a system of correspondences that will tell you much more about this element and its associations. Our bodies and minds reflect these patterns in nature as well, because we are constantly changing beings of energy. In fact, we contain ALL of the elements and experience a form of expression of each one at any given moment. Water possesses a still, quiet and floating energy. Water features on the face are the ears, hairline, upper forehead, under the eyes, on the philtrum and the chin. Look for features such as a broad or high-domed forehead, dreamy eyes, shadowing above or below the eyes, a well-defined philtrum, a strong prominent chin or large ears and earlobes.
If you possess a majority of Water features, you may be a Water element. That means you are most likely wise, determined, tenacious, independent, stubborn, mysterious, reflective, philosophical, intuitive, and unrestricted, like water. You can veer between being courageous, riding each wave of adventure or fearful, hesitant to explore the depths of the unknown and what may be lurking below. Freedom is extremely important to you. Water types are often known to be philosophers. In business Water types are the thinkers, innovators and dreamers, naturally skilled at brainstorming.
The energy of Wood is upward moving, pushingand very active. The major features for Wood are the eyebrows, brow bone, temples and jaw. Examples of strong Wood features are: thick strong brows, a protruding brow bone, indented temples and/or a prominent well-defined jaw.
If you have strong Wood features, you are most likely a Wood element. Wood types are very optimistic, philanthropic, enthusiastic, confident, driven, ambitious, and disciplined. Wood aims to grow beyond its limits, like a tree reaching towards the light. Wood types like to stretch their branches and create change for the greater good. However, Wood types can often express anger or frustration and they can be quite impulsive. If you are a Wood type, you are often thought of as a pioneer and leader. Wood types are the strategists and directors in business.
The energy of Fire is moving upward and outward. It peaks! The major features of a Fire type are the eyes, curly or red hair, balding forehead, an easy laugh and smile, freckles, dimples and the tips of any of the features.
If you are a Fire type, you know you are a fiery person! You are exuberant, joyful, expansive, passionate, warm, dramatic, flirtatious, humorous, affectionate and fun. You are the life of the party! You can also experience anxiety often and can be very unpredictable. Fire types are often performers. If you are a Fire element, you are great at marketing and social media in business.
The energy of Earth is downward and settling. Earth features on the face are the mouth, lower cheeks, bridge of the nose, and the area above the upper lip and upper eyelid. Look for features such as full lips, fully and softly rounded cheeks, a round face and a generous mouth in comparison to other features.
If you are an Earth element, you are extremely giving, caring, helpful, diplomatic, sympathetic, patient, thoughtful, tolerant, supportive, kind, modest and family-oriented. On the other side of the coin, you can be very overprotective, worry too much and often meddle in other’s business. Earth types are often mediators. In fact, Earth types are great peacemakers in business and often work in human resources.
The energy of Metal is inward moving and contracting. The Metal features are the nose, cheeks and moles. Look for features such as a large nose, prominent upper cheeks, concave or lined lower cheeks, wide spaces between features, fine bone structure and a pale complexion.
If you are a Metal type, you are very sensitive, aware, authoritative, regal, gracious, charming, hyper-sensitive and self-conscious. You are a perfectionist, and you love organization and order. That being said, you can be very anxious, critical, and inflexible as well. Metal types are alchemists and are naturally organized in business.
